Fr. Greg's Pastoral Letter

Dear Sisters and Brothers –

These past weeks, some parishioners have expressed confusion about the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal (AAA) and its relationship to our Parish Giving Appeal (PGA). Below is our attempt to answer your questions in a thoughtful, consistent way. I hope you find it helpful. If you have any questions, however, please contact Fran Quinn van Bergen at 415.422.6645 or fqvanbergen@usfca.edu. Thank you.

FAQs:

Last fall we made a gift or pledge to the PGA.  We have fulfilled our commitment or we have been making regular payments to fulfill our pledge by June 30th. Does this satisfy our obligation to support the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal?

Yes, it does. When we launched the PGA last September, we informed parishioners that the approved parish budget for 2016-17 included our obligation to the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal. Your PGA gift supports the many Archdiocesan ministries as well.

Was the Archdiocese aware of the PGA and the parish’s intent to support both the parish and the Archdiocese with the appeal?

Yes. Last spring, representatives of the parish met with the Archbishop’s staff to outline our plan and received approval to move forward with our PGA proposal.

Why is the parish now soliciting gifts for the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal?

The Archdiocese launches its annual appeal at the beginning of every calendar year. They have prepared informational material to highlight the ministries of the Archdiocese, many of which support the parishes. This is important information to help us all understand how St. Ignatius Parish is an integral part of the larger local Church.

Nearly 50% of our parish households have made their 2016-17 gift or pledge. We need the rest of you to help us achieve our financial goals by making your gift by June 30, 2017.

If you haven’t already made your gift or a pledge to the PGA, you can do so now and you will help honor our obligation to the Archdiocese. Or, you can make two gifts, one to St. Ignatius Parish and one directly to the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal. Either way, you’ll be supporting the parish budget and helping your fellow parishioners meet both our parish and diocesan obligations. Gifts to either or both the PGA and the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal will be credited to your parish gift record and count toward our parish revenue goals for the year.

If I’ve already made my gift to the PGA, may I make an additional gift directly to the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal?

Yes, of course. As in all charitable giving, you’re free to direct your generosity as often and in any direction you wish.

The important thing is to join your fellow parishioners in partnership to support your parish and your Archdiocese before June 30th!

Thank you. God bless you and St. Ignatius Parish.

Sincerely,

Fr. Greg
