I volunteer as a greeter, usually at the 5 pm mass on Saturday or Sunday. I’ve been doing it for about six months. It was a good way for me to begin to reengage with the parish after maintaining social distance for so long during the pandemic. Greeting offers me the opportunity tocontribute, in a very small way, to the community that helps sustain my faith and provides me with a spiritual home.
It gives me joy to greet parishioners and visitors as they arrive for mass and to be greeted warmly in return. It is lovely to make these brief connections before we begin our shared celebration of the Eucharist.
And it is the easiest job I’ve ever had! I welcome parishioners and visitors as they arrive for mass and I offer the Order of Worship and the bulletin. As needed, I point out the availability of masks and occasionally answer a question or two (usually concerning the location of the restroom). People arriving at the church, especially visitors and new-comers, appreciate that someone is present and available to assist. Please consider joining this important and worthwhile ministry at St. Ignatius Parish!
Join us, so that someday our whole church might be filled with singing!
