If you celebrate Halloween, the St. Ignatius Parish Laudato Si Circle reminds us all to make it fun not just for kids, but for animals and the Earth, and to help other people.
Use the money you save with these tips to help the most vulnerable, a great lesson for children and a great opportunity for us all. Here are some eco-friendly, creative ways to celebrate.
Tips for treat bags: Decorate or simply use household items to collect candy in. A bucket, pillowcase, or old even an old bag can be decorated inexpensively at home and reused year after year.
Tips for making costumes: Repurpose new and old clothes as pieces or parts of costumes. Let your kids' imaginations run wild! Make a crafty game of turning old clothes into costumes. If necessary, shop at thrift shops, consignment stores and yard sales, instead of buying retail.
Tips for treats: Buy locally produced foods, candies and treats. Look for goodies with minimal packaging and/or those made packaged in recycled materials.
Tips for having a party: Don't purchase cups, plates and cutlery that you don't plan on using at least once a year. Use regular cups, plates and cutlery, wash the plastic ones you have saved, or buy biodegradable ones, and use a marker for names.
Tips for placing fake spider webs: Protect our flying friends and avoid hanging them in areas where birds fly or perch. Do not place them on bushes, porches or railings. If possible, keep them indoors or place them inside windows.
Thank you for doing your part to protect our planet while enjoying the festivities. Have a blessed October!
