“So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”
-1 John 4:16
Three Mercy & Justice ministries — Solidarity with Immigrants, Laudato Si' Circle, and the Anti-Racism Committee — are working together through a new collaboration committee, SOLAR. The committee is excited to announce a special project that will highlight St. Ignatius as a beacon on a hill through the strength of our union as a holy community. We're creating a parish cookbook that will embody our shared values of inclusivity, creation care, and solidarity. This cookbook will showcase our diverse cultural backgrounds, honor our family traditions, and reflect on the deeper connections between food, faith, and social justice.
We need your recipes before the April 7th deadline! Submit your recipe!
If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by the state of our times; the division in our society, the scapegoating of immigrants, the tangible destruction of climate change and subsequent rollback of mitigation efforts, you would not be blamed for the instinct to disengage. You are right in what you feel, it is too much. But it is in such times that the sum of small actions can amount to empowerment!
Beyond the gesture of creating a community cookbook lies a community of souls breaking bread together and speaking the universal language of God’s love! Sharing your recipe is an affirmation of solidarity with the values that make St. Ignatius a welcoming and inclusive community. This cookbook will be a thread in the beautiful tapestry of San Francisco's diversity and a demonstration of our Catholic faith.
In addition to contributing a recipe, consider partnering with another parishioner in the creation of a “fused recipe.” Fusion cuisine blends elements from different countries, regions, or ethnic groups. In our case, it is an invitation to experience God’s love through the gateway of understanding.
Thank you for contributing your recipes to this Parish cookbook project! We also welcome anyone interested in volunteering to join the cookbook team! You will find an option to partner with another parishioner and an option to volunteer included on the recipe submission form.
