Love Your Neighbor: Las Vecinas

This is the time of year when we celebrate our special friendship with the people of El Salvador, and especially with the community served by our sister parish, Parroquia San Antonio. This week, we will commemorate the love and sacrifice of the Jesuit Martyrs of El Salvador at our liturgies on November 16th and 17th. This year marks the 35^th anniversary of their murders on November 16, 1989. We will also have a visitor from Parroquia San Antonio, Paty Lazo, this weekend, who will come to the Masses and to Hospitality on Sunday morning.

We are making a big change this year, as we incorporate the celebration of the Las Vecinas ministry into our next Home4Dinner on Sunday, December 8, 2024. We will be serving Salvadoran food and selling crafts from El Salvador at that event, and we will hold our online Silent Auction from Saturday, November 23^rd to Monday, December 9th.

As we do every year, we take this opportunity to raise funds for the important social service projects of our sister parish, including student scholarships, job training programs, English classes, the food distribution program, and other immediate needs identified by the parish.

Here are some of the ways you can participate in and support this special ministry of friendship and solidarity.

Online Silent Auction – Opens Saturday, November 23rd, at 9 am – Closes Monday, December 9th, 5 pm

We are now seeking gift certificates and new or like-new items (in certain categories) for the online silent auction. If you have a restaurant, retail outlet, or service you can ask for a donation, please share this letter with them to make your request. To donate or consult about a possible donation, please contact me, Amy Stewart, at [email protected] or 415-308-8959.

Ideally, we would like to get the donations by Wednesday, November 20^th, so I can add them to the auction site before we open it for bidding on November 23rd. However, we can also add auction items after it opens, if necessary.
